I don’t necessarily subscribe to the writing advice that you find absolutely everywhere that one must write every single day in order to call oneself a writer.
Don’t get me wrong, I see the point of the practice. In order to be a writer, you must write, and a habit of doing so every single day gets more words on the page. But it’s not always workable. If you have the usual complement of work, relationships, kids, pets, and obligations, adding a daily writing practice to it is–here’s where I tamp down the screaming voices saying “IF YOU WANT TO BE A WRITER YOU WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES ESPECIALLY IF IT INVOLVES SUFFERING BECAUSE TO WRITE IS TO BE IN PAAAAAINNNN ARRGGHRARRGRARRRRRR”–not always possible.
I’m currently trying to write every day right now, though. And maybe not for the usual reasons. My biggest fear is that if I don’t add something to this site every day (or at least add something to a draft every day), I’ll lose my nerve and let the whole thing die. So each day spent writing is one more plank added to the battering ram against petrification.
In other news, a friend just told me that my Intro page makes it look as though I have no content. Going to go fix that right now.
